CVE-2026-12720 - Before 6 Plugin

CVE-2026-12720

The Kirki WordPress plugin before 6.0.13 does not restrict which classes may be instantiated when it deserialises data that unauthenticated users can store, leading to PHP Object Injection that is triggered when an administrator later reviews the stored data. With a suitable gadget chain present on the site (via another installed Kirki WordPress plugin before 6.0.13, , or an outdated WordPress version), this could be leveraged to perform a variety of attacks, such as remote code execution.

Technical Summary

The Kirki WordPress plugin before 6.0.13 does not restrict which classes may be instantiated when it deserialises data that unauthenticated users can store, leading to PHP Object Injection that is triggered when an administrator later reviews the stored data. With a suitable gadget chain present on the site (via another installed Kirki WordPress plugin before 6.0.13, , or an outdated WordPress version), this could be leveraged to perform a variety of attacks, such as remote code execution.

Potential Impact

Severity is HIGH (CVSS 7.5). Depending on deployment context, affected components may be exposed to unauthorized actions or data integrity risk.

Exploitability Assessment

Exploitability is assessed as High based on remote code execution potential, low-bar exploit prerequisites.

Primary risk drivers: remote code execution potential, low-bar exploit prerequisites

Mitigation Recommendations

Validate affected product versions, prioritize patching, and monitor references for vendor remediation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, apply compensating controls and limit exposure of vulnerable surfaces.

Detection & Monitoring

Track authentication anomalies, unexpected file writes, and suspicious plugin API activity around affected components.

Business Impact Lens

AI risk score 82/100 (High, High) with priority P2 Urgent. Prioritize remediation where affected components process customer data, admin sessions, or Internet-exposed workflows.
